The Georgetown Palace Theatre is currently showing its new production, which they feel will resonate deeply with audiences. “The Mountaintop”– a powerful and thought-provoking play that offers a fictional depiction of the final night of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life.
Set entirely in Room 306 of the Lorraine Motel (now preserved as the National Civil Rights Museum) on April 3, 1968– just hours after Dr. King delivered his iconic “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech, this play imagines an intimate conversation that challenges ideas of legacy, purpose, humanity, and the true cost of greatness.
It’s directed by Jeremy Rashad Brown– and offers rich material for reflection and discussion across history, sociology, political science, faith, and ethics. The Georgetown Palace Theatre has partnered with the Georgetown Cultural Citizen Memorial Association (GCCMA)– whose mission is to celebrate and protect Georgetown’s Black heritage through history, culture, and community.
The production will run from Feb. 6 – Mar. 8, 2026, at the Doug Smith Performance Center (206 W. 2nd St., Georgetown, Tx. 78626).
